Gerardo de Avila Garcia, 36, passed away tragically in the early hours of January 1. Gerardo had been celebrating New Year’s Eve with coworkers near Limón, the restaurant where he worked as a server for the past year and a half. Known for his kindness and integrity, he left the gathering early to visit his father, who also works at the restaurant.

Shortly after midnight, Gerardo lost his life following a confrontation at a nearby gas station, where he intervened to defend a female employee who had been spoken to disrespectfully. Friends and colleagues remember him as someone who always stood up for others, a quality reflected in his final act.

Gerardo is remembered with deep love and admiration by his family, friends, and coworkers, who mourn the loss of a compassionate man taken far too soon. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with his death, and legal proceedings are pending.
