Bio
“Elvis Aaron Presley, widely known as the “”King of Rock and Roll,”” was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was an American singer, musician, and actor who rose to prominence in the mid-1950s and became one of the most iconic and influential figures in popular music.
Presley’s musical style combined elements of country, gospel, R&B, and pop, and he popularized rock and roll with his distinctive voice, charismatic stage presence, and innovative recordings. Some of his most famous songs include “”Hound Dog,”” “”Heartbreak Hotel,”” “”Jailhouse Rock,”” and “”Suspicious Minds.””
In addition to his music career, Presley was also an accomplished actor and appeared in 33 films, including the 1960 film “”G.I. Blues.”” He was widely popular in the 1950s and 1960s and was known for his rebellious image and electrifying live performances.
Presley died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. Despite his untimely death, he remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time and continues to influence popular culture and music to this day. He was posthumously inducted into several halls of fame, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. To this day, Presley remains a beloved figure and an important part of American musical and cultural history.”
Monument Description
The statue stands near the parking lot of the Neal Blaisdell Center, along a walkway to the concert hall’s ticket windows. Elvis, acoustic guitar strapped on, is depicted in full sweaty croon atop a circular pedestal, a sprinkling of stars surrounding the title “Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii.”
