Bio
“Charles Augustus Lindbergh was a legendary American aviator born on February 4, 1902. He rose to international fame after becoming the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean non-stop in 1927. He flew from New York to Paris in his single-engine plane, the “”Spirit of St. Louis,”” in 33 hours and 30 minutes, making him a hero in the United States and Europe.
Lindbergh’s life was marked by tragedy as well. His son, Charles Jr., was kidnapped and murdered in 1932, an event that shocked the nation and marked the beginning of the “”Lindbergh baby”” case, one of the most sensational and highly publicized crimes of the 20th century.
Aside from his pioneering aviation feat, Lindbergh was a writer, explorer, and advocate for environmental conservation and world peace. He made numerous flights to Asia, Europe, and South America, and was awarded numerous honors, including the Congressional Medal of Honor. He died on August 26, 1974, at the age of 72.
Despite the controversies that surrounded him, Lindbergh remains one of the most famous and influential figures in American aviation history, and his solo flight across the Atlantic continues to inspire people around the world.”
